Akrotiri light house santorini
SunsetAkrotiri — Akrotiri, Santorini

The Lighthouse was built in 1892 by a French trading company and it is considered a very important site, as it is one of the first lighthouses that were manufactured in Greece. During the first 100 years, it was powered by petrol fuel and there was a person in charge of running it manually, before 1893, when it got connected to electricity. It stopped operating during World War II, until 1945, when it was reconstructed by the Greek Navy.

The Lighthouse is built right above a small building with whitewashed walls, which used to be the house of the warden, who was taking care of it during the first years that it was operating and it reaches up to 10 meters in height.

Today, it is still operational as it emits a bright white light over the sea every 10 seconds and still contributes to the protection of the traveling boats.

Why Choose Us on

Santorini cruise

There are a few reasons for choosing a Santorini sailing semi-private tour. First and foremost, for budget travelers, it presents an option that is more affordable, as it keeps the costs of the cruise down. Santorini, while beautiful, is also somewhat expensive, so there is no shame in wanting to trim down on the excesses where you see the opportunity. For solo travelers, for couples, small families and small groups of friends who want to save some money while not compromising on the sailing experience, our semi-private option is certainly an appealing alternative.

Do sunset cruises pass the lighthouse?

Yes — and better than pass it: the sunset is held on the open caldera nearby, engines off, with the lighthouse cliffs turning gold in the last light.

What is the best light for photographs here?

Late afternoon into golden hour, from the sunset sailing. The cliffs face the falling sun, and the white tower above the dark rock is the photograph everyone keeps.
