A Santorini Catamaran Day Cruise in a Small, Comfortable Group
Morning is when the caldera belongs to the sailors. The light is soft, the sea is at its calmest, and the beaches of the south coast are still quiet when our Lagoon 440 catamaran slips out of Vlychada Marina at 09:30. This is a semi-private cruise: we keep the guest list comfortably below what the boat is licensed for, so there is always a shaded seat, a free corner of the deck mattresses, and room at the rail when the volcano comes into view.
Over about five hours on the water you will swim, snorkel and eat properly — a full meal cooked on board, not a sandwich in a box — while the crew handles everything in Greek and English.
Where the Morning Cruise Takes You
Weather permitting, the itinerary follows the volcanic south and west coast of Santorini — the stretch you cannot see from the road:
- Red Beach — the famous crimson cliffs near Akrotiri, seen the way they are meant to be seen: from the water. Read more about Red Beach on our cruises.
- White Beach — a pale, cliff-backed cove reachable only by boat.
- The clear waters of Akrotiri and Kalogries — swim and snorkel stops over volcanic seabed, with gear and towels provided.
- The volcano and hot springs — warm, mineral-tinted water at the edge of Nea Kameni.
- Passing views of the Akrotiri lighthouse, Ammoudi Bay below Oia and Fira Old Port on the caldera side.
The Boat: Lagoon 440 "Summer Wind"
A 44ft (13.5m) sailing catamaran built for exactly this kind of day: a permanently shaded T-top, four bucket seats, deck mattresses for sunbathing, a cockpit shower to rinse off the salt, and a swimming platform that makes getting in and out of the Aegean easy for everyone. Cruising speed is a relaxed 12 knots — enough to cover the coastline, slow enough to enjoy it.

Bring only your swimsuit, sunscreen, hat and sunglasses — the Greek sun is strong out on the water. Early or late in the season, pack a light windproof jacket for the ride home. If you prefer your own mask and fins to our snorkeling gear, they are welcome on board.

Pickup, island-wide
Drivers collect you from your hotel or Airbnb — Fira, Oia, Imerovigli, Firostefani, Kamari, Perissa, Akrotiri, Megalochori — and bring you down to Vlychada Marina. The exact time is confirmed the evening before.

Coffee and a welcome drink on deck as the boat clears the harbour. Two minutes of safety talk, and the day is handed over to the crew.

We anchor at Nea Kameni’s lava coast for a swim inside the crater. If conditions allow, the warm springs are on too — dark swimwear recommended, since the minerals can stain light fabric.

The BBQ comes off the coals as we sail south out of the caldera — chicken and shrimp, salad, dips and good bread, eaten with the cliffs going by.

How many guests will be on board?
A comfortable number — we cap every semi-private sailing well below what the Lagoon 440 is licensed to carry. The cap keeps a shaded seat and deck space for everyone, which is what makes the cruise feel semi-private rather than shared.
What happens if the weather is bad?
If we cancel a cruise because of severe weather, you are refunded in full. Itineraries can also adjust around wind conditions on the day, always favouring the calmest side of the island. Your own plans can change free up to 48 hours ahead.
Is the cruise suitable for kids and non-swimmers?
Yes. Every vessel carries life jackets, the crew keeps a close eye at every swim stop, and anyone who prefers to stay dry can enjoy the deck, the food and the views from on board. Seasickness remedies are available too.
